Ofsted Report for Cornelius Vermuyden School

We are so pleased with the Ofsted monitoring visit report for Cornelius Vermuyden School. The monitoring inspection, conducted on 15th and 16th July 2025, recognised that classrooms are now ‘calm and quiet learning spaces’ where pupils can focus on their learning. They also commented on ‘the pride pupils now have for their school.’

 Inspectors highlighted:

Stronger teaching and curriculum: Teaching continues to improve and there is more stability in staffing, with pupils being taught by subject specialists across the curriculum. Teaching helps pupils to recall key information.

Reading support: Targeted programmes are having a positive impact and helping pupils who need to catch up. Younger pupils place high value on the reading programme in tutor time.

Behaviour: Pupils behaviour has improved. Pupils have clarity about what is expected of them. Classrooms are calm, disruption is becoming rare and is consistently tackled.

Attendance: New systems are improving levels of attendance.

Inspectors also commented:

‘The partnership with South East Essex Academy Trust (SEEAT) has been instrumental to achieving the gains in teaching, behaviour and the culture of the school. The support and challenge provided by SEEAT has provided essential expertise and guidance to secure and sustain the improvements made. Staff place high value on the learning and development opportunities provided by the trust. They look forward with positivity, as the school moves towards formally joining the trust.’
